Arrive in Tunis

Upon arrival at Tunis-Carthage International Airport, your driver will meet you and transfer you to your hotel.

If you arrive early, explore the historic Tunis Medina—a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979. Wander through narrow lanes filled with local artisans crafting copper, leather, and wool, and visit landmarks such as the famous Zitouna Mosque, spice market, and gold market.

Enjoy breakfast at the hotel, then visit the ancient archaeological site of Carthage, once the largest ancient city in northern Africa, with ruins from the Punic, Roman, Vandal, and Byzantine eras.

Continue to the quaint village of Sidi Bou Said to admire its beautifully paved lanes and spectacular views over the Mediterranean Sea.

Return to Tunis to visit the world-class Bardo Museum, home to the largest collection of mosaics and a treasure trove of artifacts from the Punic to Islamic periods.

Dougga / Kairouan

After breakfast, travel to Dougga, one of the best-preserved Roman ruins in Tunisia and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997.

Enjoy expansive views as you see locals herding sheep among the ruins.

Continue on to the important Islamic city of Kairouan. Visit the Aghlabid Basins—a series of ancient water reservoirs and hydraulic works dating from the 9th century.

Hike through the canyon to the source of the mountain oasis.

Proceed to Tamerza, the largest mountain oasis in Tunisia, then travel to Mides for a panoramic view of a majestic canyon (a filming location for “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “The English Patient”).

Chott el Jerid / Douz / Tamezret

After breakfast, journey across Chott el Jerid, the largest salt flat in Tunisia, until you reach Douz—a gateway to the Sahara known for its extensive date palm groves.

Continue to the Berber village of Tamezret. Visit a museum to learn about the unique history, language, and culture of the Amazigh (Berber) people.

Stop by the historic Café Ben Jemaa (dating back to 1932) for freshly brewed green tea with local almonds, and enjoy panoramic views of nearby Berber villages such as Taoujout and Zraoua from the rooftop.

Spend the night in Tamezret or the nearby Berber village of Matmata.

Depart Djerba early after breakfast for El Jem. Explore the monumental Roman Coliseum—one of the best-preserved amphitheaters in the world, built between 230 and 238 AD.

Discover the underground chambers where gladiators once awaited their fate, and visit the local museum showcasing a wealth of mosaics.

Travel to Sousse. If time permits, explore the archaeological museum, visit the kasbah, and wander through the ancient medina.
